The Big Book of Benefit AuctionsThe Big Book of Benefit AuctionsThe Big Book of Benefit Auctions is the ultimate step-by-step handbook on how to plan and have a successful and effective auction. Auction committees will find it an invaluable reference as it provides all the tools they will need for complete auction planning and management. From setting the goal for the event, to organizing the committee, procuring auction items, building the audience, preparing the catalog and through auction night cashiering (check out) services, everything you will want to know about the auction process is readily at your fingertips in this resource guide. The book will not only contain important "how to" information, it will also explain why some decisions and activities are not only good practices, they are essential to having a well-run and efficient event. Also, the book will discuss important strategies for maximizing revenue at your event, and will cover common pitfalls and how to avoid them.
Auctions: Theory and Practice (The Toulouse Lectures in Economics)Auctions: Theory and Practice (The Toulouse Lectures in Economics)

Governments use them to sell everything from oilfields to pollution permits, and to privatize companies; consumers rely on them to buy baseball tickets and hotel rooms, and economic theorists employ them to explain booms and busts. Auctions make up many of the world's most important markets; and this book describes how auction theory has also become an invaluable tool for understanding economics.

Auctions: Theory and Practice provides a non-technical introduction to auction theory, and emphasises its practical application. Although there are many extremely successful auction markets, there have also been some notable fiascos, and Klemperer provides many examples. He discusses the successes and failures of the one-hundred-billion dollar "third-generation" mobile-phone license auctions; he, jointly with Ken Binmore, designed the first of these.

Klemperer also demonstrates the surprising power of auction theory to explain seemingly unconnected issues such as the intensity of different forms of industrial competition, the costs of litigation, and even stock trading 'frenzies' and financial crashes.

Engagingly written, the book makes the subject exciting not only to economics students but to anyone interested in auctions and their role in economics.

Question by Shak: Is it a good idea to buy a used car from a REPO auction in order to save some money?
I’ve been wanting to buy either a Acura Intergra (sedan, auto)or a Honda Prelude (auto),and after considering being able to score a good deal from a REPO, added Lexus IS (auto) series to the list too..
First off , could any of you suggest, if buying from a REPO is a good idea, where and how to start with locating these auction?
I live in Sacramento
Also, How many different kinds of auctions are there anyway?

Second of all, of all the cars listed above, which one would you suggest buying. My budget is around $ 8000.

Every comment would be appreciated.
Thanks to everyone who answers here.

Answer by wayne
First off, all the cars you listed are good cars, buy the one you like.

Far as the repo auction, people who get cars repoed, know its coming. This usually means they slack off on the maintenance. Look to see if the oil has been changed recently and such like that. Someone I know had a car repoed, and did not change the oil for 10 thousand miles. That hurts bad.

What you save from an auction can bite you in the butt in the future. Look for oil change info on the windshield and in the glove box.

Question by K P: Can i cancel an unclaimed payment on ebay for an auction i won?
I won an auction yesterday and i logged on today and it says that my payment is still Unclaimed.
Can i cancel my payment for that item? I contacted the seller yesterday about the unclaimed payment and the seller hasn’t responded yet. Will i still be required to pay for that item if the seller asks later on?

Best answer:

Answer by STEVEN F
By placing a bid, you entered a legally binding CONTRACT to purchase the item if your bid was the highest. Unless the seller agrees to release you, they can theoretically SUE you to enforce the sale. That said, if the auction only ended yesterday, you need to give them a few more days before eBay would even allow you to START a dispute though their system.

Question by Anti_Censorship: What are some products I can create on my own and then sell on the online auction sites?
I know factories make just about everything these days but are the any products an average person can work on to create and then sell through an online auction site? Thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by Maryn Bittner
If you can teach yourself a handicraft that’s been pretty much replaced with mass production, you will be able to create one-of-a-kind artisan products, whether it’s home-made bread or wooden-inlaid boxes. Some of these are marketable.

Ideally, you want something worth the time it takes you that people find affordable.

Without knowing your skills, interests, and what equipment you might own, I can’t guess what might work for you. I know a woman who tie-dyes lingerie for online sale, one who makes ID badge lanyards from beads she makes herself, and a musical instrument maker.

You won’t make money from building anything from a kit. Other people can buy kits. You want to create something from the ground up, so to speak.

Sold (The Auction)Sold (The Auction)Christy Clarkson finds herself at an exclusive charity auction where she’s agreed to be one of the participants who will be auctioned off and will share a weekend for two at a resort hotel with the high bidder. There is added intrigue when she learns that members of an elite kink club are participating in the auction.

Years ago, she broke up with Zach Nikas when she found his pictures of bound women. She was naïve about what his bondage interests meant and she ran from the relationship. Ever since she left him she’s explored the kink only to discover that it intrigued her, though she never actually participated.

When Zach show up at the auction as a bidder, Christy is exhilarated to see him. No one else stands a chance of winning her over Zach.

Her curiosity about kink is about to become experience.

He’s hot and sexy, intelligent and successful, and just happens to have a well-outfitted dungeon. A dungeon where Christy learns what Zach and “play” are all about.

Vijay Krishna's 2e of Auction Theory improves upon his 2002 bestseller with a new chapter on package and position auctions as well as end-of-chapter questions and chapter notes. Complete proofs and new material about collusion complement Krishna's ability to reveal the basic facts of each theory in a style that is clear, concise, and easy to follow. With the addition of a solutions manual and other teaching aids, the 2e continues to serve as the doorway to relevant theory for most students doing empirical work on auctions.

  • Focuses on key auction types and serves as the doorway to relevant theory for those doing empirical work on auctions

  • New chapter on combinatorial auctions and new analyses of theory-informed applications

  • New LaTex Beamer slides, chapter-ending exercises, problems of varying difficulties, and a solutions manual support and reinforce key points
Putting Auction Theory to Work (Churchill Lectures in Economics)Putting Auction Theory to Work (Churchill Lectures in Economics)Providing a comprehensive introduction to modern auction theory and its important new applications, this book is written by a leading economic theorist whose suggestions guided the creation of the new spectrum auction designs. Aimed at graduate students and professionals in economics, the volume provides the most up-to-date analysis of traditional theories of "optimal auctions" as well as newer theories of multi-unit auctions and package auctions, and shows by example how these theories are used. It explores the limitations of prominent older designs, such as the Vickrey auction design, and evaluates the practical responses to those limitations. Question by Mamaof3: Looking for Silent Auction donations for a charity event in Sept in downtown Mpls. HELP!!?
I’m a part of a committee putting together an event in downtown Mpls. in Sept to raise money for People Serving People, a homeless shelter downtown. I’m wondering if anyone has any ideas or any connections to help me solicit silent auction items for the event. We’re looking for some big ticket items that will bring in a good amount of money for the charity. Please let me know if you have any ideas, contacts, or would be able to help me out in any way.

Thanks!

Answer by bainaashanti
Talk to the staff liason to your committe about getting some of their letter head or getting someone there to put your requests on letterhead. Go to local businesses (less red tape than chain stores) and request the items. You don’t necessarily have to know someone already to get them to give, especially when it’s such a worthy cause. You might also ask the charity about people and businesses that have been generous in the past, and ask if they’re willing to donate. Local Hospitals and medis, such as radio or TV stations are good places to ask, as are banks and sports teams. Also try civic groups, like business clubs, or political groups.

Question by Mary S: what happens to a tenant of a house that goes up for auction?
I am a tenant with a lease in a house that is going up for auction. I am guessing the landlord has not paid his morgage in a long time. He has never said anything to me ( he does not live in the house) and I found out by reading the newspaper. the house is going up for auction in 3 weeks. what are my rights?

Best answer:

Answer by David M
Your rights are defined by your lease agreement… However after the house sells the new owner may choose to keep you as a tenant or could possibly evict you.

Your lease with your current landlord is NON-BINDING to the new owner.
